Chandon Australia beefs up its winemaking team

Chandon Australia is building up a dream team of winemakers with vastly experienced Loïc Le Calvez joining as senior winemaker to work with winemaking director Dan Buckle.

A grduate from the University of Bordeaux, Le Calvez has over two decades of experience. 

He was was formerly a consultant, Australian agent for the Vicard cooperage and spent several years heading up the teams at Clover Hill and Taltarni.

"It's a privilege to be joining Chandon's Viticulture and Winemaking director Dan Buckle, estate director Susan Caudry and the whole team to embrace sustainability and keep advancing Australian sparkling wines," Le Calvez said.

Chandon believes Le Calvez will bring an international perspective to its Yarra Valley-based operation.

Since 2012 Chandon has been accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, the wine sector’s national environmental scheme.

“Loic will undoubtedly be an exceptional asset to our team, with a remarkable palate, a deep understanding of traditional method sparkling wine, and a contagious energy that uplifts the team," Buckle said.

“His invaluable contributions at the tasting bench will be instrumental in shaping our wines. We are fortunate to have someone of his calibre to bounce ideas off and continue the exceptional quality of our Chandon wines.”

Chandon's Yarra Valley vineyard was established in 1986, with its first cuvées released in 1989 but it also sources fruit from other regions of Victoria, and from Tasmania.
