Hemp the key ingredient of this wellness drinks range

Hemp s a botanical class of cannabis saliva cultivars grown for industrial or medicinal use.

Among a wide range of products it can be used for are wellness drinks, with Australian brand +hemp (Plus Hemp) leading the charge in that space.

+hemp has a range of distinct hemp-infused beverages and energy drinks and is moving into new expert markets, as well as adding a new flavour.

The use of hemp as a food ingredient was only legalised in Australia in 2017 and +hemp was one of the first Australian brands to build it into a beverage.

But don't expect to take a swig and get stoned. While hemp is an ingredient derived from the seed of certain varieties of the cannabis plant, it contains no THC, meaning it does not have psychoactive or hallucinogenic effects.

The brand is marketed as environmentally conscious and Australian-made with expansion to South Korea in 2022 and Japan in 2023, with pipelines into New Zealand and India in 2024.

+hemp will make an entrance with a new flavour in its line-up, +hemp Energy Dragonfruit, using Australian-grown ingredients to take on the global energy drink market.

Founder Natalie Beaini discovered the benefits of hemp when she began using it to treat her psoriasis. After seeing significant results, she began to include the natural ingredient in food and protein shakes, observing nutritional benefits it brought to her busy lifestyle.

Armed with the idea to bring a healthy alternative to the energy drink market she teamed up with a pharmaceutical lab to scientifically formulate the water now known as +hemp.

+hemp is infused with vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B12. It uses the omega-3 and omega-6 essential acids found in organically-grown Australian hemp to hydrate and apparently boost health, while botanical caffeine derived from green tea extract boosts energy levels.

The drinks are gluten free and 100% vegan friendly and flavours include guarana, raspberry and mango, and lemon/lime.
