Farewell Vinexpo Bordeaux; hello Bordeaux Wine Week

There will be no Vinexpo in 2022 - it will be replaced by Bordeaux Wine Week.

And instead of one venue for the world's biggest wine trade fair, there will be events held all over the city, the www.vitisphere.com/ website reports.

“It is our duty to maintain a Vinexpo event in Bordeaux," said Rodolphe Lameyse, CEO of Vinexposium.

"If there is no event in 2022, there will never be one again.”

But the event will have a new name after a three-year hibernation, with Bordeaux Wine Week to be held on dates still to be confirmed next June.

Various locations across the city centre will hold tastings and other events.

“This is year zero: we are going to map out the route so that Bordeaux Wine Week will once again be a major event for the world of wine, " said Lameyse.

“We must be mindful not to cannibalise Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris, which continues to be the export platform.”

Lameyse added: “The success of Vinexpo stemmed from the unique combination of business and a festive atmosphere in June.

"Although the business aspect is essential, order forms and cheque books are not the be all and end all. With Bordeaux Wine Week, we want to offer more.”

The news follows just days after the cancellation of this year's Vinexpo Shanghai event.
