Champagne House Mumm launches a Tasmanian wine

Leading Champagne House G.H. Mumm has launched its first Tasmanian wine in collaboration with sparkling wine specialist Trina Smith.

Mumm Chef de Caves Laurent Fresnet has worked with Smith on creating Mumm Tasmania.

The wine will be the newest sparkling wine in the Mumm Terroir range and is now on sale.

The Mumm Terroir series celebrates prestigious wine regions known for producing exceptional pinot noir, building on Maison Mumm’s 200-year history of crafting pinot noir-dominant wines.

Each of the sparkling wines in the series celebrate a region's terroir.

Mumm Tasmania Brut Prestige joins the Mumm Marlborough Brut Prestige and Mumm Marlborough Vintage Rosé from New Zealand that launched in 2020.

Pernod Ricard Winemakers group white and sparkling winemaker Smith was joined in Australia by Fresnet, who visited northern Tasmania.

Fresnet said: “Maison Mumm has been celebrating pinot noir from the terroir of Champagne since 1827.

"Partnering with Trina opened up knowledge of the terroir and producers to source the best grapes.

"With Mumm Tasmania, we are revealing a new expression of pinot noir, with the same quest for the utmost quality, and in line with Maison Mumm’s style.”

Wine Tasmania reported that 37% of all grapes from the 2022 Tasmanian vintage are bound for sparkling wine production.

Mumm Tasmania Brut Prestige will have an RRP of $40 and will be available nationally.

Here is my review in Ciao Magazine: Over the past decade or so, Tasmania has built a formidable reputation for making sparkling wines of exceptional quality. Now leading Champagne House G.H. Mumm has unveiled its first Tasmanian release in conjunction with sparkling wine specialist Trina Smith. It is a ripper – and is extremely well priced for a wine of such quality; vibrant and fresh with lots of length. A perfect Christmas celebration choice. $40.
