Travel crimes do not get more American than this one

A Southwest Airlines baggage handler has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing from passengers' suitcases.

What did Mark Hunter heist that was worth risking time in clink?

Drugs, perhaps? High-end laptops? Krispy Cremes, maybe?

No Hunter stole guns and other weapons reported missing by Southwest passengers at St Louis' Lambert International Airport (above), the US Justice Department said. .

Guns. Of course. How very American.

Federal investigators found seven weapons that went missing from checked luggage had all travelled through the St. Louis airport between March 28 and August 22, 2020.

“Records indicated that Hunter was working and had access to baggage from which other guns had been reported stolen,” the US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Missouri told the Dallas Morning News.

“Hunter was approached by agents and admitted to the theft of five firearms from checked luggage he handled in his capacity as a Southwest Airlines baggage handler at St. Louis Lambert Airport.”
