Cruising Alaska just got more tempting

Alaska has never really appealed to me as a cruise destination; too cold, too white, too samey.

But a new range of immersive experiences for all 2020 Alaskan sailings, announced by Regent Seven Seas Cruises, could make me change my mind.

Getting up close with raptors, mushers, sled dogs and a range of interactive on-board experiences are among the highlights.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has a 26-year history of what it says are "the most luxurious and inclusive Alaskan voyages".

The cruise line’s new Inside Alaska | Luxury Goes Exploring programming features several exclusive activities.

“As the world’s leading luxury ocean cruise line, we continue to create even more immersive experiences for truly unrivaled Alaskan voyages in 2020,” said Jason Montague, president and CEO of Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

“First, we are bringing the destination to life on-board Seven Seas Mariner with unforgettable raptors, renowned folk singers, Tlingit historians, and cuisine and culture unique to the destination.

"Next, we are enhancing shore excursions with new go local tours and other engagements led by residents."

Destination experts sail on each entire voyage and heritage and culture experts greet each voyage in port.

An experienced, professional musher will come aboard Seven Seas Mariner in Skagway, bringing tales of the Iditarod to enlighten guests about the world’s most harrowing race. He’ll also bring along a good friend: one of his sled dogs.

Alaska Raptor Centre staff will come aboard with one of their birds to introduce to guests and provide insights, while Alaskan cuisine and cocktails will be highlighted.

Guests will learn and savour some of the locals’ favourite spots to eat and explore the hidden gems of Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway and Sitka.

All Regent Alaska voyages in 2020 are aboard the all-suite, all-balcony Seven Seas Mariner, refurbished in 2018 with 445 crew members taking care of 700 guests.

  1. Relocation Cruises. These are cruises that are sending to a different spot to cover demand (for instance Hawaii cruises that yachts for sale are sent to the Caribbean's). Cruise lines will attempt to cover their operating expense of doing that voyage by charging low prices.
