Priscilla celebrates 30 years in style

 

It seems like yesterday, but classic Australian movie The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen of the Desert is celebrating its 30th birthday. 

One Sydney cinema is going all out to mark the anniversary with STOLI Vodka and the Golden Age Cinema and Bar announcing Martini and Movie Mondays. 

The frock on a rock parties will feature bespoke martinis and weekly screenings of the much-loved movie. 

The Martini and Movie Monday experience is promising "an unforgettable celebration of cinema and cocktails". 

Miss Martini, aka Ana Page, has crafted a drinks list inspired by The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. 

Ticket holders will be able to choose from; ‘Frock on a Rock’, ‘Go West’, ‘Shake Your Groove’ and ‘Queen of the Desert’, the classic margarita reimagined in martini form. 

The festivities will kick off on Monday, September 16, and continue for three consecutive Monday evenings through to the end of September.

Here's the deal: for $50 guests will receive a cinema ticket, two bespoke STOLI vodka martinis, popcorn and a choc top.

Blind Ambition: a wine story to uplift

Master of Wine Andrew Caillard is one of the smartest cookies in the wine business.

Not only does he have a great palate, he is a prolific writer, a co-founder of Langton's, author, winemaker and is also involved in the film industry.

Caillard's latest role is as associate producer of the recently completed Blind Ambition, a feature-length documentary film which is scheduled for theatrical release in March.

The story is about four Zimbabwean sommeliers and their quest to compete in the world blind wine tasting competition in Burgundy.



The film was produced and directed by Warwick Ross and Rob Coe of Third Man films. Production was completed almost two years ago but the pandemic interfered with its distribution.

Blind Ambition recently won the audience award at both Tribeca (New York) and Sydney Film Festivals.

“This is quite a big deal as it the story has obviously resonated with many people from all walks of life,” Caillard says.

“Blind Ambition is not really a wine film, but a story about refugees, proud of their country and profoundly displaced, yet courageous and noble in their aims to represent Zimbabwe in the unusual forum of an international wine tasting competition!

“I spent some time with Joseph, Tinashe, Marlvin and Pardon, the main protagonists of the film, at various stages of filming.

“I often reflect on those times as the experience has profoundly shaped my perspectives about the displaced and the disadvantaged. Blind Ambition is definitely a film for our age!”

Blind Ambition will be released on March 3.
