Pumphouse Point offers a winter wonderland experience

My job involves writing about wine, travel and food; hosting wine classes and putting together wine lists for hotels and resorts.

I'm fortunate enough to work as a consultant for Pumphouse Point, one of Tasmania's most dramatically beautiful destinations - particularly in winter.

When I visited last weekend there was snow on the mountains and the light was exquisite.

Originally constructed in 1940 to pump water for hydro electricity, this iconic industrial site has been refurbished to offer boutique accommodation inside Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area.
View from the Shorehouse

You can stay either in the Pumphouse itself - on a long pier over Lake Saint Clair - or the classic Shorehouse.

Guests can explore the national park by foot, bike and boat, fish for trout and then return to Pumphouse at day’s end to relax by the log fire.

Room 17 is gorgeous

This intimate property offers just 19 rooms; in the Pumphouse building, the Shorehouse building on the water’s edge and the new exclusive space, The Retreat, which is just gorgeous.

The set dinner menu features Tasmanian flavours and the wine list is 80% Tasmanian, featuring wines from some of the state's smallest producers. I hope you enjoy it.

A serious minibar

For the next couple of months, guests are invited to snuggle in front of the fire with a warming mug of Coal River Farm Hot Chocolate and a winter treat.
Guests staying at Pumphouse Point during July and August will receive a delicious Coal River Farm gift pack to enjoy as well as hot chocolate to enjoy in front of the log fire.
