How Oxford Landing is endeavouring to do its bit for the environment

Australia’s leading liquor retail group has teamed up with Oxford Landing as part of a campaign to plant more trees during Earth Month.

Endeavour Group is working the Oxford Landing brand to support native revegetation efforts across Australia throughout April.

Oxford Landing will commit to regenerating one square meter of bushland for every bottle of its One to One brand sold during April.

Centred around Earth Day on April 22, Earth Month is a global celebration, with more than one billion people advocating for the environmental health of the planet.

Dan Holland, director of corporate affairs and sustainability at Endeavour Group, said: “Earth Month is a powerful reminder for us all to consider the collective action needed to protect our planet.

“We’re proud to be teaming up with Oxford Landing, a supplier committed to leading change.

“Partnering together, will help us talk to our customers about the impact small, individual choices can make collectively.”

This initiative invites Endeavour customers to be part of the change by purchasing select One to One products at Dan Murphy’s or BWS, online or in-store.

Oxford Landing has been devoted to the replanting and regeneration of native flora and fauna at its Riverland home, to date planting over 200,000 native trees and shrubs on 6.6 million square metres of dedicated conservation area.

At the time of launching One to One in 2023, Oxford Landing partnered with Greenfleet to plant the One to One Bushland, allowing customers to directly track the impact of their wine purchase.

Louisa Rose, head of sustainability at Oxford Landing, said: “Every bottle of One to One sold has a positive impact on the planet. Restoring and enriching habitats and regenerating ecosystems with one square metre of bushland for every one case sold - that’s our One to One promise.

“We love working with Endeavour Group on our Earth Month campaign, as we know customers are looking to support planet-positive initiatives.”

I'm working through some of the wines right now, and the 2022 Merlot is a standout with its bold favours and smooth finish. Recommended. I also very much enjoyed the very quaffable shiraz.

Oxford Landing underlines its sustainability credentials

Oxford Landing, a brand known for offering decent drinking at sensible prices, has just unveiled a new range to mark World Sustainability Day later this month.

Regenerate is the name of the new Oxford Landing wine collection, which it says "reflects the winery’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and offers wine lovers the chance to embrace a more sustainable approach to enjoying wine".

As an early adopter of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) practices, the Riverland winery says it integrates sustainable practices at every stage of winemaking.

"From vineyard to bottle, Regenerate highlights the winery’s dedication to preserving ecosystems, improving biodiversity, and minimising environmental impact," says senior winemaker Andy La Nauze.

“We walk the talk of sustainable winemaking. Through the Regenerate collection, we connect with like-minded wine lovers by ensuring that each bottle we produce contributes to a healthier planet.”

Which may be a bit of stretch, but every little bit helps.

At the heart of Oxford Landing is its 1:1 Plantings Project: an initiative that aims to restore native flora and fauna across the Riverland region.

In 2007, the winery purchased 600 hectares of farmland next to its vineyard and has since planted more than 200,000 native trees and shrubs, enriching biodiversity to reduce the need for artificial inputs, and improving soil health for better water efficiency.

This regenerative approach not only protects the environment but enhances the natural character of the wines, creating vibrant, flavourful expressions of the land.

Beyond the health of the vineyard, La Nauze says packaging is the biggest contributor to the carbon footprint of the wine industry.

Regenerate’s eco-friendly packaging underscores Oxford Landing’s approach to sustainability, making use of lightweight glass bottles that reduce carbon emissions by approximately 170 tonnes annually through production and transport efficiencies.

“Glass is our biggest contributor to carbon emissions, which we audit every year. Lighter glass bottles and sustainable materials are tangible steps towards a greener future across our industry.” says La Nauze.

Aside from glass, Regenerate utilises 100% recycled cardboard and FSC-certified paper for its cartons and labels, which I must say are a little underwhelming.

“The Regenerate collection is an easy way for consumers to make better-for-the-planet decisions when buying wine, which in turn helps us to continue innovating and taking small steps to lower emissions in the winery,” La Nauze adds.

“We believe that small, thoughtful decisions - like choosing wines with eco-friendly packaging - can collectively make a significant difference.”

The collection features four wines, each with labels adorned with illustrations of Riverland flora and fauna, reflecting the region’s biodiversity.

The Regenerate wines: a shiraz and cabernet sauvignon from 2023 and a pinot grigio and chardonnay from 2024. All  retail for $15 and are available through Coles Liquor (Liquorland and First Choice) and on the Oxford Landing website at https://www.oxfordlanding.com/

All are solid, well-made wines ideal for midweek enjoyment. The juicy, flavoursome and varietally impressive shiraz was my personal favourite but all do the job.

Wine brand aiming to help green Australia one bottle at a time

In celebration of Earth Day this April, wine brand Oxford Landing will increase the amount of bushland planted with every bottle of its One to One wine sold throughout the month.

Launched in 2023, the One to One collection of wines was created by Oxford Landing for environmentally conscious wine consumers to make a positive environmental impact.

A partnership with social enterprise Greenfleet, an Australian not-for-profit environmental organisation focused on protecting the climate by restoring native forests, sees funds raised for every case of One to One wine sold being used to regenerate 1m2 of native bushland.

For the month of April, this will be increased significantly, with 1m2 of bushland to be planted per bottle sold.

"At Oxford Landing Estates, we understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations," says winemaker Andrew La Nauze.

"Through the One to One campaign, we aim to make a tangible and positive impact on the environment by planting vegetation in areas that need it most."

Since launching the One to One collection of wines, work on bushland on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Central Victoria has been completed. Greenfleet is now working to restore a site at Ledcourt, adjacent to the northern part of the Grampians National Park in Victoria.

With some remnant native vegetation already present on the site, Greenfleet will work to restore the cleared areas and bolster the existing ecosystems with ground cover species.

“It is thanks to the support of organisations like Oxford Landing that Greenfleet can continue enabling Australians to protect our climate,” says Greenfleet CEO Wayne Wescott.

“As an organisation, Oxford Landing takes an innovative approach to protecting our climate. We’ve worked together to restore ecosystems since 2021 and are thrilled to continue our positive impact through their One to One wine and Earth Month campaign in April.”

Earth Day is officially celebrated on April 22 each year and has become a global movement dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

Throughout the month of April, consumers can support Earth Day by purchasing bottles of Oxford Landing's One to One wine (RRP $20) at participating Dan Murphy’s stores around the country.

The suppld 2021 Merlot was my favourite in the range and offers good value along with brisk NV bubbles. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon paired well with a cheap and cheerful spaghetti bolognaise. Give them a try.

Oxford Landing unleashes a healthier wine option

The trickle of low-alcohol wines in the marketplace is fast becoming a torrent.

South Australian winery Oxford Landing has this week introduced SUNLIGHT by Oxford Landing, which it describes as "a collection of sustainably made wines that deliver on flavour, quality, and are lower in alcohol and calories".

Inspired by the Riverland vineyards, SUNLIGHT by Oxford Landing pays homage to Australian sun and the River Murray.

Light in alcohol and light in calories, the new range is billed as being "perfectly suited to a lighter lifestyle".

Oxford Landing winemaker Andrew La Nauze has spent 18 months developing the new range which comprises a chardonnay and shiraz, aiming to ensure that the lower alcohol does not compromise on quality or taste.

“We pride ourselves on generous, flavoursome wines, and if we couldn’t achieve this in the process, then we would not release the wines to market,” La Nauze said.

“Our estate in the Riverland is perfect for growing full flavoured wines, so we have an excellent base wine to start from.”

The 2021 Chardonnay 2021 has 7% alcohol per volume, while the 2021 Shiraz has 8% ABV.

Both wines will have an RRP of $15.
