A proposed new hotel at Kangaroo Bay, outside Hobart, took a big step forward when the Tasmanian Planning Commission authorised the construction of the Kangaroo Bay Hotel.
Kangaroo Bay project director Greg Hudson said the independent TPC decision completed a two-year, major project process.
“Chambroad Australia has worked steadfastly for nearly 10 years since first being invited by the Tasmanian Government to build a hotel at Kangaroo Bay,” Hudson said.
“The permit sets stringent development requirements and Chambroad is currently assessing those requirements having spent nearly $20M to date.
“This landmark development will deliver a world-class waterfront destination featuring a 155-room hotel, restaurants, bars, function facilities and publicly accessible open space.
“It will improve foreshore connections from Rosny to Bellerive Village, further strengthening Greater Hobart’s premium tourism and hospitality offering.
“The Kangaroo Bay Hotel is designed to become a premier tourism and hospitality destination, supporting Tasmania’s visitor economy while creating a vibrant year-round hub for locals and visitors alike.”
Hudson said the project will include: a 155-room hotel with 4.5-star premium facilities; a premium Tasmanian-focused restaurant located on the top floor; a range of restaurants and bars on the ground floor; meeting and function facilities; a wellness centre; publicly accessible waterfront open space and nw pedestrian and cycleway links around the foreshore.
He said developer Chambroad Australia called on the soon-to-be-elected Clarence City councillors to reconsider their litigation aimed at blocking the development.
