Where you might find a robot dog sniffing your baggage

Airline passengers using New York's LaGuardia Airport may find themselves confronted by a robot puppy sniffing their carry-on baggage.

The airport has introduced one of the first robot inspection dogs in its Terminal B.

Created by ABM Performance Solutions, in partnership with Skild.ai, the not-so-furry friend/fiend will be patrolling the terminal floor.

ABM is introducing both autonomous inspection and cleaning robots.

The pilot program, see what they did there, marks one of the first appearances of a robotic dog in an American airport.

Autonomous Floor Scrubbers will complementing the inspection role of the robotic quadruped.

“Airports are among the most dynamic environments in the world, and Terminal B is the perfect stage to demonstrate how robotics, AI, and data integration can transform facility operations,” said Sean Bromfield, President of Aviation, ABM.

“This pilot underscores ABM’s leadership in anticipating our clients’ evolving needs and investing in real, ROI-driven innovation.

"Robotics and AI are not about replacing people but empowering them - freeing our teams to focus on the work that most directly impacts travellers and strengthens the guest experience.”
