Final edition for popular Tasmanian festival

One of Tasmania's most popular festivals will cease to exist after one final edition in 2024.

The Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest, will close after next year. organisers from Willie Smith's Cider said today.

The island state has already seen Dark Mofo call a halt in 2024 for a "re-set" while the Targa Tasmania rally will not be held next year after several deaths in recent events.

Willie Smith's said the final event - to run on July 12-13 - will be a "festival of reflection, where we will look back on Mid-Winter festivals past and celebrate with fire, feasting and hot cider for the very last time".

It added: "Everything that makes this festival great will return, welcoming back our favourite live musical acts, storytelling, pagan finery, rollickin' fun for the kids, the ancient Pagan ritual of Wassailing thee old apple tree, and, of course, watching Big Willie burn."

The 2024 Huon Valley-Winter Festival - which celebrates seasonal Pagan rituals - will be the 11th edition of the event that traditionally draws thousands of visitors to the deep south of Tasmania.
