Thailand’s will gain its first dedicated seaplane airline when Siam Seaplane launches over the summer.
Siam Seaplane says it hopes to secure over 40 landing spots across Thailand - a travel destination perfectly suited to small amphibious planes.
Siam Seaplane says it has partnership deals with over 60 resort operators - including InterContinental, Hyatt and Four Seasons - to transfer high-end guests, the Chiang Rai Times reported this week.
The airline's website says flying by seaplane offers several positives for tourists using seaplanes that can take-off and land on both ground and water.
They promise landing right at a resort wharf in airt-conditioned plans that can seat for up to eight guests.
The seaplane airline will initially provide scenic air tours and ground-to-ground charter flights and it has taken delivery of its first aircraft, a Cessna Grand Caravan.
It is targeting a fleet of 15 aircraft within five years, local media reported.
Chief Business Operator Dennis Keller told AirwaysMag that the airline had encounter several difficulties during the epidemic but is currently aiming to secure more than 40 landing spots around Thailand including Koh Lanta, Koh Tao and Hua Hin.
Bangkok will serve as the airline’s main base and a gateway to the Gulf of Thailand, including popular locations like Koh Samui. The majority of flights will last around 1.5 hours.
The airline's website says: "We commit to always offer a faster, hassle-free, comfortable and luxurious experience - to safely bring you from the airport to your final waterfront destination."
Siam Seaplane is part of the holding group Seaplane Asia, which sees Thailand as the first of many regional markets
